A. Purpose
1. The adjunct faculty individual is a registered nurse responsible for planning, teach, and evaluating students in the designated clinical or lab areas.
B. Duties
1. Become familiar with the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the college and nursing program.
2. Become familiar with the college catalog, and college policies.
3. Shall be responsible for ensuring that students perform only skills or services in direct client care for which
they have received instruction and have been found proficient by the instructor.
4. Maintain a skills checklist for each student detailing the performance of skills for which the student has had
faculty supervised clinical and didactic preparation.
5. Responsible and accountable for the assignment of clients and tasks based on their assessment and
evaluation of the student's clinical knowledge and skills.
6. Confers with corresponding course to clinical course faculty regarding clinical rotation plan, assigned clinical
agencies, and assigned group of students.
7. Responsible for the designation of a preceptor for each student and shall communicate such assignment with
the preceptor.
8. Participate in an orientation program for faculty, preceptors, and students.
C. Minimum Qualifications
1.Hold a current unencumbered Registered Nursing (RN) license or multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia as a registered nurse.
2. Must possess one of the following degrees from an accredited college/university: a) a graduate degree in nursing; b) a baccalaureate degree in nursing and be actively enrolled in a graduate degree program; or c) A baccalaureate degree in nursing and hold alternative credentials.
3. Provide evidence of experience in the specialty area in which they will supervise students; clinical experience for quality and safety.
