Plumber/Facilities Technician
The Plumber/Facilities Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems across the college campus. This role requires a skilled individual who can operate independently, troubleshoot complex plumbing issues, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and safety standards. The Plumber/Facilities Technician will work closely with the Physical Plant department to support the campus’s operational needs and enhance the campus environment
Additionally, the Plumber/Facilities Technician serves as one of the college’s primary boiler operators and assists the Physical Plant team as needed with mechanical equipment diagnosis, maintenance, and repairs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including water supply lines, waste disposal systems, drainage systems, chilled water systems, MTHW systems, and boiler systems.
- Diagnose plumbing issues using appropriate testing equipment and techniques.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on plumbing systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Respond promptly to plumbing emergencies and service requests from campus facilities and residence halls.
- Operate the central plant heating system, including boilers and MTHW loops.
- Oversee safe operation and maintenance of campus swimming pool water quality.
- Collaborate with other Facilities staff and departments to plan and execute plumbing projects.
- Maintain accurate records of all plumbing work, including repairs, maintenance, and inspections.
- Ensure compliance with local plumbing codes and regulations.
- Provide guidance and training to less experienced maintenance staff as needed.
- Assist with water quality testing and other environmental compliance measures.
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies.
- Stay informed about industry trends, technologies, and best practices in the plumbing sector.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical training is a plus.
- State certification in plumbing
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in plumbing, preferably in a commercial or institutional setting.
- Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, tools, and materials.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Physical ability to perform plumbing and maintenance tasks, including lifting heavy materials and working in confined spaces.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a college or university environment.
Familiarity with building maintenance management systems.
Additional certifications in plumbing, boiler, fire safety, or mechanical fields.
